TRAVERSE CITY, MI — First came the rain and the sewage overflows. Then came the beach closures.

Beaches in Traverse City have had a rough 2020 so far. Heavy rainfall has regularly overwhelmed city sanitary sewer systems, resulting in the closure of popular beaches on West Grand Traverse Bay multiple times due to unsafe pathogen levels.
